Hi i am a new seller here, trying to get started with my very first order.
I got this message from an account called "technical support"

Can't figure out whether its a spam or not (most likely it is)

Its asking me to click on a link and complete the order process.

I've just fallen foul to this.

I'm new to Fiverr, as of yesterday. I'm keen to develop my freelance work, and offer my skills out to the Fiverr community, much like we all are.

I received contact from "Support Fiverr", asking me to verify my account. Being in a hyper focussed mode and aiming to get things up and running, complied, to the tune of £245.

I was "told" the £245 was the amount of money that was required for this verification. I sent it, and it was returned to me. I'm thinking "verification has failed". I sent it again, them only was not returned.

I slept on it, and woke up. The transaction was taken via Remitly, and obviously my bank. I alerted the bank within 12 hours of the money being taken, along with Remitly and Fiverr.

I'm feeling pretty foolish right now - I'm usually extremely vigilant about stuff like this. In hindsight, I can't believe I just went along with it.

I hear what a few of you on here are saying - why on earth do Fiverr allow users to create accounts with the words "Fiverr" and "Support" together?

It's a bitter start to this part of my career. However, I'll either end up grateful to my bank and Remitly for recovering the money, or I'll have spent £245 on a powerful lesson.

Has anyone affected successfully claimed their money back?

Heeeey All!

I have some amazing news! 🙌🏼

We have applied a policy prohibiting the use of the words "Fiverr" or "Support" in any part of the username or display name. Additionally, we have updated Fiverr's Community Standards to make sure that all Community Members are fully aware of the new rule.

Thank you All for your valuable suggestions and feedback! @catwriter @katakatica @vickiespencer

Have a great day! 🙂

Hi there!

I am sorry to hear of this unfortunate situation. You did the right thing by contacting your bank about this issue and I hope you can retrieve your funds soon.

We just updated our community standards so that new users are not allowed to use 'Fiverr' in any part of your username or display name or impersonate our employees with the intention to deceive and mislead users, or conduct other prohibited activities. This should help mitigate this issue on the platform.

I need money to accept payment from a gig?

Hi there, I am pretty new to Fiverr and just landed a gig and got a message on Fiverr saying I need to follow some steps, scan a QR code etc, I did all that and was told that I need to have money in my account before I can accept the order? I am a little confused in the matter, can someone please explain this to me. Also if this is strictly the rules for bank payment is there a way to change the payment method so I can accept the gig another way? I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

It's a scam. Hope you haven't done what they told you to do.

Just use common sense. Why on earth would you need to pay anyone upfront to earn money with YOUR skills?

I would like to warn you about a phishing site.

I've been a seller on this platform before and never received anything like this, ive looked in the forum a bit and didn't find anything that looked like this, so i thought i could let everyone know to stay away from this.

Basically someone pretending to be from fiverr pretended that someone bought my gig and i have to enter my bank details in order to proceed with the payment.

Since i have been a seller here before and my new gig has 0 impressions, i thought it's kinda weird how someone could have bought this gig without even seeing it, but i clicked the link and the link itself obviously isn't from fiverr and the Conditions down there are just a text, not a link.

I'm new to Fiver and the same thing just happened, I created a profile literally 30 minutes ago. and I received an email with the same email as fivver. and I was about to put in my card although it seemed suspicious to me to have to put in the card so they can verify my identity. So after researching I realized that it happened to several people. Now I will have made my profile on the real "fivver"
Thanks for uploading to the forum, you will surely help more people

⚠️ Caution: Scammer Alert on Fiverr! ⚠️

I recently encountered a troubling scam attempt on Fiverr and want to share my experience to warn others. Here's what happened:

I received a message claiming my order for a "high-quality minimalist logo" had been purchased by a user on their website. The message emphasized that they were testing a manual notification system for new orders to prevent fraud and ensure communication with buyers. They requested confirmation of receipt of funds via a provided link, mentioning the payment method as MasterCard.

However, the situation quickly escalated when I attempted to proceed. After adding my card details, which had a zero balance, I received a suspicious message: "Unfortunately, according to the rules of our service, we do not accept cards with a balance of less than $300. This is done to prevent fraud with fake cards."

This raised immediate red flags. It became clear that this was not a legitimate transaction but a fraudulent attempt to extract personal and financial information. The insistence on using their communication channels and the misleading message about card balances were clear indicators of a scam.

Lessons Learned:

  1. Verify Before Trusting: Always verify messages and requests for personal or financial information, especially on platforms like Fiverr.

  2. Use Official Channels: Stick to official communication channels provided by the platform. Avoid moving to external sites or messengers.

  3. Report Suspicious Activity: Report any suspicious messages or transactions immediately to Fiverr support.

Let's stay vigilant against scams and protect our online transactions. If you've experienced something similar or have tips to share, please do so in the comments to help others stay safe.

Update: Fiverr Support Response

Following my report to Fiverr Support regarding the suspicious message and scam attempt, I wanted to update everyone on the response I received:

I have sent all the screenshots and details to the Fiverr support team. Today, I received a message from Mariella, a member of the support team, confirming that the message was not sent from Fiverr. Here's an excerpt from their response:

"Hi Prasanna,

I hope you are doing well! Mariella is here and I will be assisting you today!

Thank you for reporting this to us. Please note that the message you are reporting was not sent from Fiverr.

We strongly recommend not opening suspicious links, QR codes or files from senders you have not contacted directly. Please be aware that Fiverr will never contact you via inbox to request payments, passwords, or private information. You can learn more about how to recognize Fiverr’s authentic domain and how to keep your account safe from malware and phishing in our Help Center.

We’ve escalated your report to the relevant team for further investigation.

Best regards,"

This response reaffirms the importance of staying vigilant against such scams and emphasizes Fiverr's commitment to user safety. I appreciate their prompt attention to the matter and their efforts to investigate further.

Thank you all for your support and awareness. Let's continue to protect ourselves and each other from online threats.

After adding my card details,

So the people at that scam site probably have your full card info and could use it later (eg. when you have $ in the account).

You could contact your bank about it and let them know about it, they could send a new card if necessary and check the account/any transactions.

I thought as much yes, if I do actually receive an order will it go straight to the Fiverr balance or what would that look like so that I know in the future?

yes, it will save in Fiverr balance

after whenever you want to transact, attach your paypal or payoneer account

even for that, Fiverr won't ask you for access/credentials

and if you already gave card details, i will suggest consulting your bank

ask them to change credentials

so scammer can't use it when it get funds

One would think that it's self-explanatory to not visit sussy links from a stranger. Or if it's important for the work, always ensure it's a clear link that looks legit and not a QR code or a shortened link. And have a firewall and antivirus also, those will block most malicious links, as you never know what could happen on the internet.

I've noticed that Fiverr usually blocks messages temporarily if they contain an unverified link, to do scans on it. But not sure about QR codes.
