I would have to respectfully disagree with you.

I’m from Romania, btw, and we are a second world country (wikipedia: “The Second World refers to the former Socialist, industrial states (formally the Eastern Bloc), mostly the territory and the influence of the Soviet Union.”).

Once you build up a reputation and you show buyers your work is good, the money comes in. I make close anything from $300 to $700 on here. You just have to work hard, have good English, and be willing to put up with many attitudes you’re unfamiliar with.

Reply to @josipvuka: One way to counteract that is your profile description. Make sure it’s very well written and buyers will not doubt the fact that you speak English well.

Your English has a few issues, but nothing major that would make buyers wary of you.

Here is a description I wrote for you, because I’m bored and procrastinating:

“My name is YOUR NAME. I have five years of online marketing experience. I also do programming & IT youtube tutorials.I work hard and in a timely manner, and my communication with my clients is always professional.”

I haven’t noticed any flag bias but it is not easy to get that first order and a good review to get you started. It took me about 6 months after joining to get the first gig. But if you have decent English, you are patient and keep tweaking your gigs to see what works, you can make nice pocket money.

Hello @josipvuka:

It’ true I joined fiverr almost3 years ago to give it a try , But I am active from last few monthly only.

I got my first sale on the second day after joining fiverr. first the buyer contacted me and asked few queries later he ordered my gig after getting satisfactory reply from me

I offer monthly WordPress maintenance service buyers re order my gigs on their monthly cycle hence the "1 order in 6 days on average"

If you look at level 2 and top rated sellers you will also find sellers from countries you called Second or Third world countries

Have a nice Day

It depends. For an average life I think it’s enough. However, I don’t like putting all my eggs in a single basket… you see, the Internet is quite unstable to rely 100% on a single revenue source.

For example the last UI update left a lot of people without that steady revenue.

Than it also comes down to what are you actually willing to do for $5. How much your time worth?

I’ll give you an example. I have one quite successful gig. I post reviews on my blogs.

Yesterday a buyer gave me a 4 star review. Ok, no problem. I’m not perfect. I contacted him and asked him if he could share with me the reason for it.

He said he’ll give me a five star feedback only if I make his backlink do-follow (this is a $20 extras - he ordered only the basic gig). I made his link do-follow and he replaced the 4 star feedback with a 5 star “outstanding” one.

This is just an example of how things really work (sometimes).

Now take the the time invested in the work, communication, feedback, change the work to have perfect feedback, more PM’s… for $4.

It’s quite frustrating you know. 🙂

Reply to @josipvuka: Yes, it takes 6 months for MOST people from all walks of life. I started Fiverr in the very beginning and it took nearly a year before my income was “steady”. I go off and on with my activity as this is not my only “job”… It takes time and energy to build up your reputation, 6 months is probably average (unsupported by any facts).

Not sure about Bus tickets, not used one for 16 years. I need around $5000 per month to pay my bills and live a comfortable life in the UK which I do, do.

I have ordered gigs from buyers all over the world and sold to a lot too over 7500 in the past year alone.

Reply to @calocedrus: Thank you.

If someone needs fast gig like in few hours or so, then maybe they need to look on flag, but again, if order is done in one day (24 hours) it doesnt matter from where you are.

Flag is maybe important only if some writing is included, so for sellers like that maybe is better to look native english speaker. But again. If someone is native english speaker that doesnt need to be that they are good in grammar.

One thing to consider (besides the aforementioned language barrier) is the time zone difference. This can make an easy gig stretch out because the buyer is ready to call it a day and the seller is just starting their morning.

If someone has the US flag but is from overseas, I now have no trust in this person. If they lie about their location, what else are they going to do to try to steal my business away from the other sellers?

OH MY WORD! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? buyers make their decisions based on the quality of workmanship, rating/feedback of the seller, gig presentation and professionalism of the seller. It’s not about where they are from so stopping making excuses for yourself.

If I was shopping for a service, one thing that would totally deter me, is poor communication. This is especially bothersome when the seller claims English as their primary language. There is nothing wrong with being foreign or speaking poor English as long as you don’t claim otherwise.

I’m only mentioning this because I’m sure that buyers do avoid working with people that they don’t understand. That is normal.

Also a lack of business is no excuse for poor ratings and feedback. If you have only sold three gigs you can still be a five star seller. If you offer a three star service amongst a bunch of sellers with five stars offering the same thing, obviously you won’t get as much work but that is your own fault, don’t blame your country.

High quality workmanship and excellent customer service sells no matter what country it originates from. PERIOD.

This is work not a charity.
