What do you prefer to create an informative website: building it with a design from scratch or customizing a theme?

First I do some research and draw a sketch on paper 🤪Next design UI with Figma and send that design to the client. Next, get an update/confirmation from the client and start the development. The first design will help to get improve buyer satisfaction before the development.

Most of the time it depends on the client's budget.

If he is on a limited budget ready-made theme with customization is the best option.

If he wants a standout design and is ready to pay I would love to create a site from scratch

For me, it depends on the customer's needs. In some situations designing the template from point 0 is the best approach. However, quite often, buyers already have an idea of the designs they enjoy. They bring their own frameworks that they want to be customized. I believe you shouldn't focus on only 1 path. Website design consists of multiple technologies and frameworks. If you get accustomed to building layouts from scratch only, you might have a hard time when someone wants you to customize something you haven't seen before. Same, building websites from templates only can make you miss the fundamental understanding of how a well-performing layout should be built.

I recommend customizing a theme over building from scratch for an informative website. Utilizing a well-designed theme as a foundation provides a head start, saving time and effort. You can tailor the theme's elements using the atomic design system, ensuring visual consistency and efficient development. This approach combines the benefits of a structured design framework with the flexibility to adapt the theme to your specific content and branding, resulting in a polished and informative website.
