  1. 1. (Buyer) Your work is great but I can't afford you. Can you give me a 30% discount?

    • Of course! I will be happy to accommodate your budget.
    • I will consider it, if you give me a longer deadline.
    • I can only give you a 10% discount.
    • No! I can only offer you my regular rates.
    • No, I am not a charity.

I think 30 percent is a huge discount. The most I've given was probably no more than 15. I think it's inconsiderate and disrespectful for buyers to ask for such a big discount. It kind of implies that they don't value your work. Some people already think freelancers should be underpaid anyway.

Have any of you ever given a discount with an expiration date? I have a customer whom I sent a discounted offer to months ago and she disappeared for 4 months then pops up, asking for a new offer with more work added.

I'm wondering if I should retract the discount. It would look bad but she's been wasting my time and not keeping her word. I also sent her questions to answer and she hasn't done that either.

What would you all do or have done regarding the buyer and discount?

I would definitely not offer another discount.

I think you answered your own question right there. Plus, a lot can happen in 4 months. A business can grow a lot, and you cannot be expected to offer old rates or discounts to some buyer that does not think highly of you.

its already enough when you see people asking elsewhere when Fiverr are having a sale again, or asking how they can get discounts, before even coming on here. these people you want to stay well away from. Ive had some approach me openly stated they have been given discount codes & coupons and how much more of a discount will I give them. people who disappear for a long time like this are usually shopping around looking for vouchers & codes from Fiverr and they will wait long enough until they get something

This is trouble waiting for you. I would withdraw the offer and make your excuses.

I swear most of the time the people who ask for discounts are the ones that cause the most trouble. 🤣

I also find the ones that value your work the most are glad to pay full price and even generously tip! 😁

Couldn't agree more! According to my experience, those who ask for discounts, usually send the orders for the revision again and again, ask for extra services for free and so on - it's better to say no, because otherwise, you will lose your time and get nothing in return

This is the same logic by which I decided not to take advantage of giving out coupons. It just felt needy.

I use the coupons only as a thank you to buyers who spend a lot with me on a regular basis. It is a nice (non spam) way to say, "Hi, I really appreciate your continued business, here's a coupon for next time you order." I think this helps them remember to leave feedback as well, as regular clients usually fall off as they get used to working with you. A $100 thank you for a $7,000 annual client is a smart investment. This is why casinos comp a suite for the whales.

Great point Mike. I think that's a solid way to utilize coupons.
