Why some sellers are getting top reviews with poor work?

Hello everyone, it has been few weeks that this doubt does not let me sleep at night for real, so I decided to open this thread about it.

I see some top rated seller (in same category as me) , which are full of orders in queue, literally exploding their sales and incomes, getting just amazing 5 stars reviews with long text descriptions reviews from their customers. In the beginning that looked very inspiring to me, but after some time and experience,  I felt something weird was happening at the end, and I will explain why.

1) The selling category I talk about it's based on results which can be counted in numbers. Let's make an example: at the end of the service, I provide result *100* to my client. He might leave me a negative review, saying that he was expecting *500* , that he won't order anymore for poor results. Then I look at my competitor, and at the same price he provided as result *50*. And you know what? Amazing 5stars review from the clients, saying this is absolutely amazing job and he will re order soon!

Now, if this case was happening just randomly, then I could think it's just a random case and nothing more.. But actually, I can see the same example in hundreds of their sales. They have literally no negative reviews, on results which are extremely poor compared to the higher ones we provide, that on the other hand produce 4 stars reviews very often, and not any particular happiness by the clients.

So what you will surely think at this point, that the reason could be? I might guess it with the following '' Probably your competitor is very clear at the beginning, they use transparent communication about the results the client will obtain thanks to the service, while you are not doing that''. Wrong! Because we are transparent on that aswell!

So again, the whole situation is very strange, I see competitors providing low results, which are top rated on fiverr, while I'm  able to provide way more powerful results, and struggling to get orders and positive reviews.

It's very strange, there should be some secret in their communication with clients at this point, they might give some ''extra'' stuff in change of positive reviews, Which as I know, is not allowed by fiverr terms. This is the only possible solution to my doubts, feel free to share your idea about that.

Thanks a lot!

I've read some negative reviews on your profile to get a general idea of what you do, and 3 years ago the negative reviews were... Worrisome, to say the least. 1 star ratings should not happen to you at all, is very bad for your business and is a stain that remains forever on your profile and gig.

I don't really know how your competition performs on your niche, but take a look at Pro and TR sellers rather than just the ones with best ratings and see what they do. Apply some of that to your gigs.

I identified 2 main issues with your Instagram gig (the one with the biggest amount of reviews): the basic package has a price and delivery time too low for people to expect and receive something better, and you're not giving a clear picture of what the final results will be in none of the packages.

This explains the 1 star ratings you got. You offer no exact number of followers for your packages, because, obviously, that's impossible for you to tell. However, not all buyers are conscious of this and have unrealistic expectations about your service, like 100 followers in a day or something like that. You said yourself in a response to a customer that 1 day was not enough to see results and definitely they couldn't expect better for 15$, so why you offer that package in the first place? That's problematic in and of itself.

Nevertheless for your gig, as you stated, optimum results are unattainable unless there's a lengthy plan and process. You should focus on selling that process instead, and not the results that come after it.

Cheap prices lead to cheap customers. And not setting clearly the reach of what your packages offer leads to being in a gray area that relies way too much on the subjective expectations and satisfaction of buyers that don't even know how things really work (because, let's be real here, buyers wouldn't even be looking for your services if they knew what you know).

Raise those prices, and sell the process and not the results, but if you still want to sell the results, under promise and over deliver. Example: in 24 hours you will get a minimum of 50 followers for 50$. Buyers may get a lot more than that amount of followers but you would achieve what you promised and because of that, the buyer won't feel they've lost their money and time.

Also, some buyers complaint you were a little rough when communicating with them. Please avoid engaging in those behaviors, be respectful and calm in every moment. You can explain a buyer why they're wrong without being harsh or rude. Remember that they make or break your reputation here.

How can we confirm the reviews some sellers get are real reviews, one seller I used had 50 5 star reviews. And this was the reason I awarded him a contract, but the work was dreadful and there knowledge of smart contract and audits was novice.

on researching the reviews 40 of them where from just 3 clients and all work was over a 9 week period. I could not find any other reviews from that client anywhere else .

To me it looks like these are fake accounts setup by the seller all orders where under $5.

I've seen pages on Facebook where they sell reviews for Fiverr. Don't know why Fiverr doesn't realize this, and if they do, why they aren't making anything to stop it.

I totally understand your explanation, but seriously you have not seen with your own eyes like i did in the last 3 months, the insane amount of 5stars reviews got by my competitor each day with incedible ultra billiant words for the seller. Talking in numbers, since you seen the niche is about instagram growth, I will make some example from my competitor service:
- A client got 400 followers in a month ( which is simply 13 followers per day ) and left 5 stars reviews saying '' Amazing service, no words seriously, this seller it's amazing and we will work longterm together''
-Another client got 300 followers in a month ( 10 followers  a day ) and left 5 stars reviews saying '' Working with this seller from 1 year straight and got 3000 new followers in total on my account, absolutely amazing''

Trust me, Every single review shows that similar poor number results (compared to the results we are able to provide), and the clients are extraordinary surprised and throwing 5stars reviews to them. This is really suspicious, trust me, because on the other hands i will explain our reality:

Client getting with our service +3000 followers in a single month, at the end of the service saying ''Really? that's all? just 3000? I expected lot more... very disappointed. Not worth.''

And trust me , it's not a single case, it's a conclusion that came after analyze 100+ clients cases. I'm sure my competitor is giving some extra stuff, some free bonus in change of 5 stars reviews, because literally, what i see it's insane.

They are currently getting +50 order every day, and fiverr placed them as top ranking results.. their bank account is exploding, and I bet something is very weird in this story.

It's a waste of your valuable time to worry about what shady things your competitors may or may not be doing to get reviews, fake or otherwise. Fiverr is already cracking down on fake reviews. Instead focus on how you can be better at your own work. Right now your bad reviews are pulling you down. If you're really good at your service you will be able to rise above them. Obviously people really want what you are claiming to be able to provide if you have still been able to get orders despite your high number of negative reviews.  Clearly there's potential there. Fix your own service and don't worry about anybody else. Nobody can fix it for you but if you can do it, you will be able to fly.

p.s. You should make your own Instagram account about marketing and use your skills to direct future customers to your Fiverr account. You can spend lag time between orders to do research on how to make it amazing.

"Why some sellers are getting top reviews with poor work?"

It's because they able to delivery just like their client need.

For you.., maybe it seems poor delivery, BUT from Their Client, it's very good delivery.

and how well Seller handle their customer surely affect their Buyer Satisfaction rate.

and I agree with @rachelbostwicksaid.

Don't waste your time on the negative things.

Focus on your own goal,  fix your services, and improve your gigs.

this is very interesting. Indeed top stars are given not considering an absolute meter, but the satisfaction of the customer. as example in my field "music and audio" I received top stars for simple jobs, because they were exactly what the customers needed (they considered them "perfect") while in my demos I've got more complex sequences refused "as demos" by the same customers. In my field all is very subjective, so the real meter is the customer satisfaction.

Precisely my points. People buy reviews. It's none of our business. We should focus on us.
