Hello, 

I would like to offer a gig where I mix peoples vocals for maybe a backing track / karaoke song they've sung along with. Of course I wanted showcase what I can deliver in my portfolio...so I guess my question is, Is there any copyright issues when uploading a cover song?

Since you will be using that song in a business manner to market your services, you would have to purchase licensing to use the song from the publisher.
