Can You Actually Rank Your Gigs in Fiverr Search??

So we all know how often we see this question that keeps coming up on a daily basis.
Can you rank your gigs in Fiverr? Or is there no such thing as "Fiverr gig ranking"?
I'm probably still new to the platform to talk about this, But here's my take on this.

First and foremost, Fiverr is a marketplace for buying and selling services online.
The core function is to make it easy for buyers to connect with service providers in a competitive environment.
Anyone can simply search for what they're looking for, and get a list of freelancers who are offering services in that niche.
You could either go with a seller who's at the top of their game or take a risk by hiring someone with low credibility at a cheaper price.
It's essentially a database of freelancers on the internet with an option to search the entire database with very specific values.
Now from a seller's point of view, we should try our best to create our gigs to show up for searches
that are relevant to the service we offer in Fiverr in order to maximize our chances of getting an order.
The way we do that is with search engine optimization (SEO).

By choosing the correct service category, Including searchable keywords in your gig titles / descriptions, and especially search tags,
filling out gig meta-data correctly will help Fiverr search to index your service in the correct category which in return will maximize our sales.
But this doesn't mean you stuff keywords un-naturally everywhere for the sake of ranking higher in search.
A modern day search engine can easily detect this type of behavior and avoid showing up such gigs in search results.
So any optimization we do must be for the sake of "helping Fiverr to list your gig in the correct category", and not to "rank in search".

I hope that makes sense.

You can read the following blog post on Fiverr blog to learn more about "optimizing your gigs"
https://blog.fiverr.com/post/how-to-optimize-your-gigs-to-maximize-your-sales

The following section from that blog post clearly indicate that SEO is a thing in Fiverr

Optimize Your Gig Search Tags

Search tags are a great way for buyers to find your Gig. Because your Gig has a specific focus, you can use Google Trends and Google Keyword Planner to find out what people are searching for in that area and tailor your tags appropriately.

So does it mean by using the "keywords: and "optimizing" our gigs for search, they will be shown to everyone who is searching for the type of service we offer?
Sadly, no. If that's the case, only a handful of sellers will sales. The search results may be diversified in many ways to ensure that everyone has a chance to make a sale.

Do you agree with me? I'd love to hear what ya'll think : )

To be honest, it doesn't matter whether we agree, or disagree with you. Fiverr works the way it works.

There is no set rank in the Fiverr search results, because results are not ranked, they are matched between each seller, and each unique searcher, based on user metrics. Every person searching the Fiverr search system will, therefore, see different results. Fiverr is not SEO'd for results, it is engineered for connections. Fiverr wants the best sellers for each individual user to be connected to that user/searcher. It feeds custom-matched results, not search engine ranked results.

True that 😄

Well I should've added that the word "ranking" doesn't mean a list of results in a specific order, rather it means that a gig is optimized for a specific search term (if that makes sense).

Apart from the blog post written by the Fiverr team I shared, here's another instance of Fiverr mentioning SEO in somewhat of an advanced level such as "renaming the gig image files"

Quote

Name your image file
Make your Gig easier to find with a clear and relevant file name. This can be valuable in terms of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as your Gig can be found in search results.

SEO is not what makes gigs successful. The connection of unique/targeted buyer-seller metrics, and great communication with a great service does. Sellers would be wise to focus less on their varied understandings of the term, SEO, and instead, work on being a great seller worthy of being hired.

SEO means absolutely nothing, if you aren't a positively-established quality seller, who knows how to out-compete the competition. Sadly, most new sellers, here on Fiverr, have no idea how to do either of these two things.... and don't seem all that inspired to do the hard work necessary to achieve them.

Fiverr gives a 'rank' to gigs so it can display them in search results (or subcategory pages) for a particular user at a particular time. It doesn't display them all overlaid in the same place. The are ordered (ranked) on the pages in a particular order, which may be different for different users and at different times. They'll try to place the better, most relevant gigs on the top pages and near the top of those pages. They'll be slightly different if you re-search a bit later (you'll likely see the same gigs in the same row or nearly the same row after refreshing the page a short time later).

Users could have a bit of influence on the 'rank' eg. SEO (eg. you'll probably get to a higher position for a key word if that key word is in your gig title and description than if it was just low down in the gig description) but it will also probably take into account a lot of other things (eg. delivery on time, lack of cancellations, probably reviews (pubic and private), number of orders being delivered, probably earnings made, maybe seller level, maybe buyer info).

Agreed 🙂 But keep in mind that I'm simply talking about the importance of SEO for a Fiverr gig, and not about whether or not it can make a gig successful.

SEO is one of the most important aspects of the internet nowadays. It is literally everywhere. You can have great communication with great communication, but without SEO, your gig will not be seen by anyone.

Here's yet another instance of Fiverr says that SEO is a thing 🙂
These are support articles written by the Fiverr team, we simply can't ignore that.

4. Use SEO to help your gig get found

Small SEO tweaks can make a huge difference in the number of eyeballs your Gig will receive. Review best practices for a Gig title that will grab buyers’ attention.
