NEW SELLER! I want to cancel a custom offer but don't know how

I’m a new seller and I’ve responded to a buyer request. The buyer has responded to me and asked for a sample of the first story and upon checking the entire document, I don’t think I would be able to complete the work in the required time from the buyer, nor do I think the price I gave in the original response matches the amount of work I am asked to do.
Is it okay for me to cancel it? and how do I do this without sounding rude? will it affect my ability to respond to future buyers requests or get future sales?

Do you think I can raise the price or ask for extension of time on the actual project now even though I already told the buyer a set price and time?

I think you should be honest and talk to the buyer.I once accepted a project from a buyer and told them i would do it in three days. After checking the work i was sure it would take two weeks so i just told the buyer that i couldn’t do it and i was sorry for not checking the work first. They understood and thanked me for being honest upfront.

They came back!!Honesty goes a long way.

  1. Always ask for their requirements before quoting a price. Tell them you are interested, you have xyz experience in the specific area they have mentioned.
  2. It will not affect your rate as there is no order involved currently.
  3. The buyer just needs your sample at the moment.
  4. Tell them honestly that you have gone through the requirements and the suitable price for the work is $X, instead of the earlier $Y

I just read you have already sent a custom offer. You can speak to the buyer to put in place another order and while cancelling, cite the reason as ‘buyer has placed another order’ (or similar words)

If with custom offer you mean the offer you sent to the Buyer Request, and the buyer only “responded” but didn’t yet accept the offer you sent (yet) = there is no active order in your queue/dashboard = there isn’t anything to cancel technically, just cancel by telling him you can’t provide the work as stated in your offer, as you were not clear about the requirements when you sent it (keep bintzia’s #1 in mind for future offers to BR).

If he’ll end up accepting that offer despite you telling him that more money and time is required (normally, people wouldn’t, but you never know, some might still accept that offer and then insist you do the job under those conditions), you can cancel via the resolution center (the link tells you how it works, there are many other useful articles for new people too).

Just know, that if there is an accepted offer, and you cancel, it will affect your Completion Rate and can harm your ability to go to the next level or retain the level you are at. This would only be if you have an order on your dashboard with this buyer.

This is not saying, “work for pennies and do it anways”, but, that you will be penalized if you do cancel an order that is ongoing.

Also, what “samples” did you send? Hopefully you are not creating samples that are geared specifically to what this buyer wants - it should be something more general if they want to get a feel for your abilities. Otherwise, some “buyers” here will go from one seller to the next asking for “samples” and then having a lot of free work done for them!

I think every buyer will not you give this chance again. And if they don’t give you this types of chance again then it will be a great hamper to your account since you will not be able to do the work in the proper way and couldn’t delivered the work in the given time. So, we should be more conscious when we send a buyer request. We should read the whole project details properly and if we get confident then we can go ahead with the buyer request.

In resolution center top right of ordering page of that customer you can ask for change.

It includes almost everything such as extra cash or delivery time changes.

You can also cancel the order but my advice is increasing the budget.

Canceling an order affects very bad so try avoiding it. Just cancel this project only if you think it worth canceling.
