Mixing & Mastering Samples for a Gig?

Hello, guys. I wanted to open a mixing & mastering (further will be abbreviated as MnM) Gig myself but I may not have any decent examples to showcase for the Gallery, because I’m actually a Composer & Producer, so most of the time I write and produce my own track, also handling the MnM, too.

Hence, should I use my own songs as the samples, or use sample packs and do an MnM demo (ex. Cymatics FM since they have zero-dollars, royalty free samples, or other paid samples that are royalty-free), or get someone to do vocals for a song (ofc it can’t be a Cover or both of us might get into legal trouble) and demonstrate the MnM?

I don’t see any problem with using your own songs that you have mixed and mastered. It’s actually quite common in freelance world to create your own samples before you can get work from others.

However, if you think your songs may not represent your mixing and mastering skills to the fullest, it’s totally alright to go any route that you have mentioned above. Depends on what feels right, what you can afford, and how much time or money you’re ready to invest.

P.S. I’ve written songs but that’s about it. So take all that advice with a grain of salt.

Hope that helps.

I agree. Original works are definitely best choice. Since initial showcase can show 3 audio works, maybe I can compromise with 2 original and 1 from sample packs as variation. But I need to state the source of the said sample pack and such, if I can take that advice properly.

I read your previous edit, and I imply that using sample packs is no-go, right?

Point taken and understandable.

Yes, please read Fiverr community guidelines. Better not risk it.

Make a brief but complex track and export it before mixing or mastering

Reopen the project again but this time mix and master it before exporting

Make a 20 second introduction video with voice over where you go “this is how my tracks sound before retouching them (then you play a bit of the unmixed track which sounds messy, muddy and unbalanced), and this is how they sound after special treatment (same action with the mixed track that sounds good)”.

???

Profit!

Post a before-after (without effects and after effects)? That’s genius. 🙀
