Why Sellers giving their valued services at a very low price?

Hi All,

Hope everyone Safe and Sound!

I have seen this for years now, Most of the sellers working for really cheap price which is not even the market price in real times. I have seen when average goes from $100 as minimum for some services but there are sellers who do it for $5 - $20 and upwards. LOL, I cannot even imagine why do they do like that. I’m thinking if all the seller can come to an agreement and take the lowest and highest margins for gigs which may serve all the freelancers around the world. I don’t know if this work out or not but just suggesting making this marketplace to better for every freelancer who is doing their hard work for their clients.

This idea might help out of us to get up in the ladder equally not pulling down others and be the best with the lowest price.

Feel free to let me know your ideas too. So we can make the better place as “the best place”. 😃

The reality is that competition is so tough that some sellers even trying to offer their services for free here on the forum to gain reviews (which is of course not possible, but they are so desperate they didn’t even read fiverr rules)

Just in logo category itself it’s thousands of sellers competing with each other and in that reality a lot of them trying to offer services for 5$ with unlimited revisions etc. It’s not healthy but that’s what fiverr market dictates for some of them to survive.

Building trustworthiness and getting market down to the lower level will affect all the freelancers who are working and willing to work in that respective category. Hope you get my point. If we just because need review if we have done that next time buyers will come and ask the same thing for lower price since they have done that within that range. Isn’t it a hit for all the freelancers?

Assuming you sell yourself as - or your audience sees you as - a generic commodity. if so, why not pay the lowest price you can get away with before the results turn to 💩?

The key to freelancing and running your own business depending on individuals should always be to avoid such generic thinking. Leave that to the majors who can thrive on generic volume whilst failing at being good at specialist results.

I too almost invariably get told No by musicians struggling to mix their songs passably as they perceive that a) they lose control (of what, I ask) or b) they can get better for less (even if the offer was free).

Having eight 5-Star reviews has not brought me any more business. Matter of fact, the more I have, the less I get. Stooping to get those reviews has not helped, probably hindered those who think I will want too much seeing I am proven good. This indicates a market, as the OP says, that is fundamentally broken from too much supply and not enough demand which has lead to a complete skewing of standards and values.

It is not just here but everywhere across society.

They charge so low because they thinks it makes it more plausible to make a sale when they are in a super competitive market with more people selling the service than buying it. It doesn’t and we explain that time and time again but they don’t listen and then come here to complain when they don’t make sales.

They don’t take the time to learn how markets work or understand the impact of supply and demand.

I’m always saying they need to stop trying to get magic tricks and use thet time to learn sales principles.

Real buyer always know the quality and different between bestsellers. But if we get more and more people like this, I am not sure where we are heading.

That’s why all sellers need to research their competition before creating a gig. If your gig is superfluous in the market you likely won’t make sales.

Choosing our products price is a very delicate and important moment. Consider this: you are a professional, and your work is important. But, how much is it important? an high price indeed will show it as a prominent product, but could dismiss customers with a low budget. Consider the opposite. A low price will attract many customers with no money, but could show your product as a mediocre product. I suggest to find a balance between these two extremes, a logical solution. Considering also the market (you need to research), the competitors, and honestly, how much you consider significant and valuable your product of talent.

A general (but not infallible) trend is that success begets further success, and failure perpetuates further failure, creating the perception of people who always seem to succeed and people who always seem to lose.

This is rather plain to see in Fiverr, as there are a select number of sellers in each category who dominate their field and receive a lion share of business, while a larger group of established sellers jockey about to hopefully join them.

Then, there is the predominant group of sellers who have not established a presence in the platform or have found little to no success. Many of these sellers will give up and have their accounts go dormant from inactivity and fall by the wayside, but a number of them will persevere, grow, and carve out their own success.

In order to try to compete against both the top sellers and the established sellers, many new sellers promise as much as possible for as little payment as possible, trying to undercut the competition and make their gig as attractive as possible for those wanting a bargain or willing to take a risk on an unknown seller.

I started selling on Fiverr in March and knowingly under-priced my services so that I could start developing my portfolio, establish regular customers, and build a track record on the platform. I started selling 300 words for $5, then went to 150 words for $5, and now just recently changed my prices to 100 words for $5 as I just broke 100 overall reviews and am about to become a level two seller.

My personal thought on the practice is, sure, go ahead and sell cheaper than normal if you are starting out and willing to do so (I’ve done the same thing), but continually re-evaluate your status on the platform and adjust accordingly. Continuing to undersell yourself if you actually do find success doesn’t make sense to me.

I would offer different packages like Fiverr suggests. A lower price (basic pkg) that would allow me to give quality work without sacrificing too much time, a mid range (standard pkg) that would increase workload a bit as well as the price and of course a premium pkg. As a business owner YOU must value your time and work and eventually that 1st client will come along. That great review will come; and more work will follow.

I truly believe that you get more visibility when you log on consistently whether working or chatting here. Give Fiverr 30 mins a day everyday - learn the platform - I really believe that’s how your customers find you (assuming your profile reflects quality work.)

Sadly I found that offering peanut priced mixes wasn’t bringing me any more “cred”. It did bring heartache. Being kind and helpful seemed only ways to be abused by those looking for freebies or the impossible as opposed to those looking to build valued relationships.

Of course, the type of service one is offering and amount of effort required must be taken into consideration in regards to pricing!

If I started out offering 1000 words for $5, I’d probably have received significantly more orders, but it would have been from buyers who had little to no qualms exploiting an individual for pathetic wages (a fourth of a cent per word recorded) and would have burned me out, killed my voice and also my freelance journey.

There have been 2 multi-national companies now… who was trying to get me to do business plans that require over 20 hours (I am thinking close to 30 hours of work), with at least 70 - 80 pages of work.

One wanted it done at 100$ and another 80$. At a bare minimum, I calculated 25 hours x 5$… both walked. Done professionally, with 2 others vetting the work. These would be between 3,000 – 5,000USD.

I am a little confused, disheartened… but I believe I will get the first few positive reviews to kick-start my Fiverr reputation. 🌺

Desperation and naivety. You can’t reason with either of those.

Real buyer always know the quality and different between bestsellers.

Not really. I have quite a lot of regulars who spend thousands of dollars on fiverr and have their own successful businesses who are very much clueless about the things they buy.

They don’t know the proper price ranges for the services. Don’t know what would be a quick and easy thing to do and what would take days. Don’t know anything about the file formats they need. It makes my job harder but it doesn’t make them “not real”. If you’re selling tractors and are looking for a flyer to advertise your business, you’ll probably know zero about “quality” flyer design, for instance.
