Scammed by a buyer today

I’ve never made any money online, so I decided to edit videos and sell them because that’s what I’m good at. Soon I uploaded a gig and 7 months later, someone finally messaged me asking to edit him a video, I was excited that I was getting money because I’ve never earned any, after 8 hours of editing, I was finally done. He said he would send me $10 so then I uploaded the video through messages, he downloaded it and said “Thanks for the free editing” and I was so disappointed and I just feel like I’m never gonna earn anything

Well that’s a hard lesson to learn.

You had 7 months to read how platform works 😉 next time never ever start working without an actual order in place.

I Got scammed by a buyer too. I did a huge project for them at only $5 in 48 hours. They montiored the whole process and kept saying it looked great. When it came time to rate, i gave him 5 stars but he gave me a 2.3 stars. I’m super angry because I worked so hard and produced an amzing product and thats what I got. It’s also the first review on my account so now nobody will be interested in purchasing from me since I have a 2.3 overall. I’m so sorry something similar happened to you and i’m not sure what to do but I hope things get better for both of us (🙂

This is your bio:

“Uhhhhh, wassup everyone. I am a YouTube with 66 subs I edit fortnite montages and make some hilarious YouTube Poops (Explicit Content) I use a professional video editor to edit videos called DaVinci Resolve 16 (So don’t worry I’m not gonna use Windows Movie Maker lmao)”

Gee, I wonder why you don’t get clients, and when you do it’s something like this.

I made that bio when I took this website as a joke, but yeah I guess you’re right

You know what, that is so bad that it might almost be good. I would never hire someone from/like that but it does show who that person is far better than the usual blandness - I’ll give it that.

If you treat a business as a joke, guess how clients will treat you?

This is definitely accurate.

I LOATHE when people start what to me should be a serious (note it can still be enjoyable) business conversation with “So” and proceed to “hehe” the whole way through. As though the subject and therefore my expertise is beneath them.

Yeah, most people complain about getting scammed by sellers, but no one looks at getting scammed by buyers because you work so hard and then they treat you like losers.

I’m sorry that happened 😦, shady, dishonest people will always try to get away with stuff like that. Remember that anyone on Fiverr can inbox you, but you can use that as a way to ask questions BEFORE money changing hands, and often you can weed out the scammers like that guy by asking the right questions first.

Try not to be discouraged. Being a freelancer takes time and patience, and if you really enjoy what you do, then it’ll be worth it when someone actually places an order where you get paid for the work, and that sense of accomplishment will make this less painful to look back on.

If you want to make sure that you are ready and prepared to deliver an order when you do get one, and you will one day, Fiverr Support has all the knowledge indexed on how to do that and more. I highly recommend you check it out, and bookmark it for handy reference.

Best of luck 🦋!

That`s really sad news. Hope you will be a great freelancer once. Please forgive him.

  1. Don’t do any work until the client places an order. Send a custom offer if you have to.

  2. Unless you’re getting paid a lot of money, don’t take any jobs that require 8 hours of editing. Even then, I’d be scared of wasting 8 hours, only to be told “I don’t like it” and being forced to refund the order.

what burns my cookies is that the scammer almost certainly sought this seller out. they never intended to pay for their work, and instead specifically looked for the seller the could most easily scam. i wonder if they are using the work in any kind of commercial capacity, or if they were literally just trolls, considering the 8 hours of editing

i would strongly suggest that you report this scammer, because they are not a buyer. but be swear that if you agreed to communicate or work outside of fivver, that’s a violation of TOS which they will most likely burn you for

Here’s some snips of our direct messages on fiverr. I’m on the top and he’s on the bottom.

You need to block out the seller. he may deserve a serve but terms of the forum say you cannot use the space for calling people out personally.

Oooh and you can NEVER discuss reviews. That is a real no, no.

I think you need to revise the TOS before you get in real trouble.

🙂

? I did not use his name though. Only his Roblox profile picture, is that against the rules?

Think on it this way, I use your avatar (your brand face here) to implicate you in something bad. Maybe I say you have every Vanilla Ice album ever and listen to them non-stop.

How do you feel?

🙂
