How can I make sure no one takes my gig artwork?

After months of battling CS who have steadfastly refused to sanction another user who stole my gig artwork (and just put her face on my work), I’ve given up. I’ll be redesigning my gig. I don’t want this same thing to happen to me again. How can I ensure that my artwork and layout remain mine? Should I be watermarking mind? Screenshoting it? What kind of files and info would allow me to prove that my work is in fact my work? I’m not a graphic designer, just someone who dabbles a little with an old version of Photoshop. Any help would be really appreciated!
