I have read on a post from a year or two ago that proof reading thesis is allowed and others say zero academic work is allowed.

I would not take this gig and will not take the chance of getting banned.

Two years ago, I wrote to CS and asked if proofreaders could proofread thesis. The answer was yes. I kept a copy of that e-mail as proof that CS had said it was okay to proofread thesis. Yet, although I have proofread a few theses, I have chosen not to offer this service.
