olyasr Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Hi everyone!Yesterday I have sent a message to the seller (I wanted to choose and buy service) - we are from the same country and speak the same language, so I texted her on our native language (NOT English). She told me, that we can’t use any other language except English, or we will be blocked. Is it correct? The communication is on Fiverr only, I have never asked to communicate anywhere else, and I always use Fiverr only for work, but can we use other languages? Not even in order, just in communication BEFORE starting an order

Is it correct? The communication is on Fiverr onlyyes and no… depends on what you are talking and if support can translate those messages… I also had people who addressed me in my native language , sometimes I responded in english and sometimes in my native language however I tried to respond in my language after they actually placed an order , I can’t be sure if something bad could happen or not but I gave up responding in any other languages but english for a while now just to make sure that no one is misinterpreting my messages
trix_designs Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 As Fiverr has the features to show the languages you are good at, it should be allowed to communicate in that language too. If your client speaks a different language that you know, it should be allowed!Try contacting the support again, maybe thay specific support agent wasn’t sure about this.
lenasemenkova Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 If things go wrong between the seller and yourself at any point CS will need to look through the entire messaging history. And in that case, it’d better be in a language they 100% will be able to understand.I decline communicating in Ukrainian or Russian for that reason. That said, I doubt it’s a bannable offense on fiverr.
imagination7413 Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 I’m not sure about the main platform (guess I need to go review that part) but here on the forums, it is permitted if and ONLY if you also provide the translation. Yes, it means typing things out twice, but that’s the rules.I would say, communicate in English, and if you need to provide a clarification in your own language keep them short and as infrequent as possible.

I doubt they’d make these systems for other languages. And even if they did, these systems would probably misinterpret things as spam. The systems do that enough as it is even with English! So I’m sure it would be worse with other languages. This is a big ol’ can of worms.

On the smartphone is harder, I can type in Spanish but I can’t switch the language to Spanish on the Fiverr app for some reason, so I can’t use voice dictation to type. She told me, that we can’t use any other language except English, or we will be blocked. Is it correct? Not true, there are many clients who speak little or no English. Sometimes I’ve been forced to use Google translate to communicate with them, they appreciate that.Fiverr CS can always translate your text into English, so don’t say anything in any language that violates TOS.
Guest humanissocial Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 Makes sense, but still, it looks like a weird problem to me.If Fiverr was run more efficiently, I would agree, but alas… And you don’t want to put yourself at risk.
vibronx Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 It is not against Fiverr’s ToS.I communicate with some clients in Danish, as many of them find it more convenient. I have had no issues so far, but I agree that it would be ideal to communicate strictly in English to protect yourself. Some of my Danish customers communicate with me in English, and I suspect that it is for this reason,However, I think it can also be very useful for the buyer to initiate communication with sellers in the translation category in the language that they claim to be able to speak. There are many frauds in the translation category.

olyasr Posted July 19, 2020 Author Posted July 19, 2020 Thanks a lot for your opinions about it! When my clients text me in any other language, I try to reply in language, that is better for them. But when we starting an order, I write the detailed order description in English, always, so in case of any problems, CS will be able to read it. But at the same time, communication can be in other language. And I have never had any problems with it. If I follow the Fiverr rules (and I always follow the rules), I guess it doesn’t matter, what language you use. That’s why this was very weird to me and I decided to ask about the same experience other sellers
