I am SO SORRY this happened to you. What kind of sample did you provide her? I noticed you offer voice over gigs, so I deeply hope this scam artist didn’t just take your sample and run with it.

I advise you not to give out free samples even if it’s just a paragraph. What if the whole voiceover was just that paragraph and they were just tricking you? They can now use it for free. The fact that they blocked you after that is very suspicious…

I have to give sample otherwise they won’t purchase my gig 😐

You don’t have to give samples, most of the time when asked for samples turns out to be a cheap person or a scammer.

I do provide voice over samples, if i don’t they will not purchase my gig. As a new seller i can’t take that risk. One buyer said will place order then never message. This is so annoying, I was hoping so much 😐

what should i do? They ask for their script sample otherwise they don’t even listen to other samples and go to another seller! I don’t wanna lose a buyer!

Best thing you can do is to have a professional portfolio with your voiceovers works and let them speak for you.

When you take your time to record edit and export and audio file is work not a sample and you can charge a fiverr for the sample.

This is horribly untrue. I started my own voice over gig 2 months ago and 98% of my buyers do not require a sample. That is was the video and audio preview on my gig is for.

One buyer said will place order then never message.

That what they always do! They’re just a bunch of pathetic bullies!

While I personally think giving out custom samples can be okay for voice over stuff (but not anything longer than a sentence, and only in situations where your existing samples don’t fit what they’re looking for), I don’t recommend you listen to anyone that tells you they’ll place an order after you give them a sample.

People that promise to order from you never have any intention of actually ordering from you. If they plan to order from you, they will do so whether or not you give them a sample.

If someone says to you that they won’t purchase simply because you didn’t give them a sample, congratulations - you dodged a bullet. Eventually you’ll get actual buyers wanting to purchase your services, and none of them will behave like this.

I thought when someone asked for sample, you just gave sample from your portfolio, or existing works that match the buyer’s requirement? Not a sample from the buyer’s script? If you did this way, you are opening yourself to scam.

Simple rule, don’t do any work until order is placed!

Because they’re scamming you!

Folks, please stop calling free work a sample. It isn’t. Commissioned work is never a sample

Time you spend for one person is never a sample.

A sample is a generic piece of work you can share with others. It’s not work you create for an individual.

Stop doing free work. No legitimate buyer expects that and no legitimate buyer would see you as a professional if you offered it. It just makes you look unprofessional and desperate.
