What is the weirdest order you ever got?

Just wondering!



I believe I just completed one of my weirdest orders today.

I was asked to translate a text (website content) into French.

Their is nothing wrong with that, I suppose.

However, the English version seemed a bit weird to me.

So, I offered to correct it, while proofreading my translation.

While doing so, I stumbled upon a version of that website in my native language, as well as the English version that could be found online.

While reading the version in my native language, I found out that even some of the information in English was not correct.



Then it hit me, the English version was a Google Translate version!



I am so not acquainted with Google Translate that it did not dawn on me in the first place!

I offer editing and proofreading services, and the weirdest documents I get to edit are hate mail. It seems that some people want to make sure their writing is edited and error-free before sending it off to tell someone that they hate their guts. I can see from their writing that they’re certainly frustrated and angry about whatever it is that prompted them to type out all that text in a fit of rage, but the situation of editing a stranger’s hate mail is always a bit humorous to me. 🙂

Reply to @cheezees: It can get pretty wild. Last week, someone sent me an angry, 4-page letter to be sent to Apple that included an oddly political rant about why the Apple Genius employees should not be referred to as geniuses. It takes all kinds.

Luckily, my buyer appreciated the fact that I was able to detect what was wrong with the English original. I really needed to edit it, in order to be able to provide the translation that he wanted.



At first, I thought it was someone’s idea of a bad joke. Now I am glad that I treated the order as a genuine order and that by doing so, I was able to help someone out.

I got one gig in my romanian translation order (figures, not many people are looking for that), which was to translate ~1000 words in an excel sheet from English to Romanian. the catch? They were all porn words or phrases, things like "“beautiful teen gangbang”, “fisting”, and the like.



I have never had more laughs while translating. It felt so awkward to have to come up with a translation for most stuff, since everyone googles that stuff in english, not our language XD

Hello! I’m new here and offer a gig drawing couples for valentine’s. It was one of the earlier buyers who asked for ‘female ninja turtle getting a kiss from a vampire’. Since they look like teenagers, I drew a Twilight-like-vampire.

It was the ‘female ninja turtle’ that got me. XD So far that’s the weirdest order I got. :3
