Oh it is very convenient, I was just quoting people.🙂

I just love mythology and this idea that if you are a powerful being in any capacity, you either can’t use it to help yourself or pay a heavy price to have this power. It’s, well, mythical.

Hey, I have this box that has $1000 inside, and I’ll sell it to you for $100. But it’s a magical box - you have to believe the $1000 is there - if you open it to check, it will vanish.

Amazing how that works on some people, isn’t it? That’s the basis behind all mythology. The moment you get to the bottom of things, there is no “magic”. The magic is in the unknown, that’s what people love.

But if they can cast spell to make money… dude why are you on fiverr earning it.

Most of them will tell you that they can’t use their own powers to benefit themselves. It’s a concept that comes from mythology/fairy tales so it kinda checks out.

Most of them will tell you that they can’t use their own powers to benefit themselves.

Though by having gigs and having people buy them they’re benefiting financially from using their powers.

It’s so transparent I really don’t get how they aren’t all banned. It’s absolutely ridiculous to the point of being insulting, tbh.

Tell me about it. One of my aunts does tarot readings and she was the most shocked about this whole covid thing. I feel incredibly cheated. 🙂

I do love tarot, though. I illustrated a few decks, I collect them, the symbolism is great, the history, the art, the concepts, etc.

It’s all about burden of proof. I’m a skeptic towards all things, that’s what being a fence sitter is. Honest people putting forward a proposition (I can make you a logo that people will like, I can cast a spell that will make you money) need to prove it first, only then I’ll believe them. I’ve seen people proving they can do many things. I’ve never seen a single person prove they can cast a spell that does anything. You can claim Santa is real and you can claim Giraffes are real. I can be a fence sitter on both. But one of those can be easily proven. The other can’t. It’s pretty simple.

Busted! There is just as much photographic proof for Santa as there is giraffes:

The only way you can be absolutely certain that one does or doesn’t exist is to go to where they occur naturally and see for yourself.

Unless you go to Africa and see a giraffe in person, you simply agree with the consensus that giraffes exist. The same applies for Santa. Unless you go to Lapland and find absolutely no proof of a man with a factory powered by elve slave labor, you can’t say for certain that he does not exist.

False, I’ve seen giraffes in person, even though I’ve never been to Africa. It’s called a zoo. Also there’s a ton of video evidence, much harder to fake than a photo, etc.

You don’t seem to understand basic logic, I’m afraid. I never said Santa didn’t exist with 100% certainty. I said the burden of proof is on those who claim he exists. If somebody puts forward an extraordinary claim and provides no proof, we’ll act like the claim is false until proof of the contrary. It’s simple, and you do it every day for millions of things.

And to finish it off, go to your room and shut up. You have to obey me, I’m your father, see? You have to believe me, or at least be on the fence about it. There’s no proof either way!

It could have been animatronic or a cunningly disguised horse. Come on. You know as well as I do that the masses would freak out if was revealed that giraffes were a huge hoax.

I do, but you seem to be incapable of appreciating sarcasm. That’s a pity as I had a lot of respect for you. 😉

I’m your father, see?

Judging by what I see in the mirror every morning, you must be a hell of a looker. Thanks for the genes Dad!

Sarcasm is indistinguishable from actual opinion on the internet. That’s a well known law. A bit is fine, once you go too far you are just playing the idiot. Trolling is fun, of course, I also like it. But on these matters, I actively want to take these scammers down, and trolling doesn’t help. What helps is a lot of people coming together to trash them as they deserve.

Btw, I also subscribe to the giraffes are not real subreddit, I’m well aware of the huge hoax!

I did a quick search on any bad spell cast gigs. Apart from one that offers to “break a couple happily in love” with a little bit of “my friend is available for voodoo, contact me”, they seem to avoid negative spell casts, or maybe fiverr do make selection at the beginning when someone posts a spell casting gig 🙂

Anyway I am definitely starting a regular thread with my friends called “the strangest gig offers on fiverr”

My other aunt nearly fought me after I said that unicorns didn’t exist. She has recently had her thyroid removed so I thought it was her hormonal imbalance talking or maybe she was having some serious anaesthesia complications. It later turned out she was talking about narwhals and was technically right.

Only if you were born after 1990.

You should get a better hobby. I too would like to take scammers down on Fiverr. However, I go after the bigger fish. Witch-hunting (in the literal sense) always goes down in the history books as looking very ugly.

This is why I do things like publish blog posts about how Fiverr sellers steal peoples Bitcoin on reputable websites to try and prevent people from falling victim, and expose as many people I can who are selling dodgy backlinks for $100 a pop whenever they appear on the forum.

Ah, so you do have a personality. There’s a start! 😉

Keep going after the bitcoin scammers, I’ll keep going after the spell casters, that’s fine. Both valid pursuits!

Source? I’m not saying you are incorrect, but I generally don’t think that to be the case. What they do tend to have is different superstitions, but in general the higher the education level (on average) the less superstitious people are.

Santa (a man in red and white with flying reindeer) is the result of shamans who in winter used to drink the urine of reindeer they had fed fly agaric mushrooms to go on drug fueled vision quests. In this case, Santa is technically real too. - And a junkie.

Not my experience at all. But this could vary from country to country.

Your source could be the rhino horn and endangered animal trade. The demand comes from rich Asians who firmly believe in animism. This being a belief that they will gain the power of an animal spirit by consuming its body parts.

It is also usually the wealthy and elite of some countries on a certain continent that pay witch doctors to hunt people with albinism to use their body parts in rituals.

If you ever dive into the world of actually practiced witchcraft and black magic, you will go down a quite terrifying rabbit hole.

In Asia and Africa, maybe. In Europe that’s definitely not the case.

Yes, it varies from country to country. But I don’t think we owe all this new wave mysticism to the hippies. And I think the apolitical middle class is the consumer of this new wave mysticism in all eastern and western countries in western-modernity.
