The whole point of being online is to actually be there to answer questions immediately.If you show as online but don’t answer you could get reported for that. Clients can be stubborn, and they will very quickly come to the conclusion “Well, she answered me once at 2am, so I must be able to contact her at that time anytime I want.” I’ve had to sternly scold my OCD and turn off message notifications and force myself to get a full night’s sleep…I have a lot of overseas clients that don’t seem to “get” time zones no matter how much I explain my availability.As freelancers, no one’s looking out for our own health the way we are. There’s a romantic notion of “burning the midnight oil,” but that just leaves you depleted and zombie-like, useless for real creativity the next day or days.Set Hours, People. Set boundaries and tell clients things like, “No, I won’t be able to deliver until X time. I need to set aside time for myself.” and stop apologizing for it.
