Any tips for a translator?

Good day! Thanks for taking some time to read this.

I’m quite new on Fiverr, joined some days ago, and I opened an English/Spanish translation gig. Now, I don’t expect to get any orders the first few weeks (though i’d love to!), but I’d like to get some advice on how to attract more attention to the gig. I’ve shared it on social media, but I guess there’s just so many translators (with very good reviews btw) that probably offer the same things that I do. I’m sure many of you have some good advice for me, so please do share your knowledge.

I’m going to leave the link to the gig right here, in case you guys want to take a look. I will, of course, accept constructive criticism: https://www.fiverr.com/share/e6l3Kk
Thanks a lot!

Kind wishes,
Victoria.

Hello and welcome,
it looks like you’re doing everything correctly so far, at least to me!
I like the fact that you added a video, your description is nice, etc.

I have read about people getting their first order by letting their friends/friend’s friends and family know about their gigs so they can let their friends know about it, maybe you can try that?
I am aware that you’re not supposed to discuss business outside Fiverr, but I’d like to believe it is OK to ask some of your friends/family/coworker to spread the word. I think. 😓
Someone please correct me if this is against TOS! 😨

I’m sure you can try the buyer’s request as well.
From my past experiences, fake translators tend to use broken English, so if you reply to a request in a professional manner using perfect grammar, that should help you stand out.

You should probably get permission for the copyrighted film you’re showing in your gig video.

The gig video looks all about translating & transcribing a video but the gig set up is more about documents and mentions ebooks. For the video translating & transcribing maybe that would be better in the transcribing subcategory, so you have the most relevant things in the gig setup.

Maybe it could be split into 2 gigs - one for translating & transcribing video and the other for translating documents/ebooks.

I think it should be okay as long as they never communicate with their friends’ friends outside of Fiverr after 🙂 Or maybe the OP could check with CS if it’s okay, just in case there could be a risk of warnings.

Just another suggestion,
Maybe you can create 2 gigs like @uk1000 said, or maybe recreate your video
and add an introduction of you talking in 2 languages at the start?
I’d like to believe that video of you working on the translation is good enough
but I think it’ll be more convincing if people heard you actually talk.

@zeus777 @uk1000 Thanks so much! Yes, I felt like cramming everything I can do into one gig wouldn’t look very good, so I will have that in mind now and probably separate them.

I’m going to edit the video as well, and maybe talk over it explaining what I’m doing. Also, I should maybe use some sort of “public domain” video? I’m not sure if I can contact the owners of that movie haha. Regardless, thank you very much for your advice 🙂

And thanks @roshanpyatha @goldsmydy too for the warm welcome!!

Legally it would be safer. If you think it’s okay according to ‘fair use’ type laws you could keep the existing one, but it’s a bit of risk, maybe not just from the owners but maybe Fiverr’s TOS.
