How active you are on social media is important here.

In another reply, I wrote that when I first started offering writing gigs on Fiverr, I had a FB marketing (not friends and family) account. All I did was write posts on my homepage (not in groups) telling people I had started freelance writing on Fiverr and if anyone needed blog posts, feel free to message me.

Because I was quite active on FB at the time, that got me my first few gigs and I have been building (slowly) from there.
