Buyer giving an ultimatum - Give more free stuff or bad review

So I have a buyer who is happy with the product that I gave them, within the product I give away a couple of free templates, now I’m being held to ransom because they’re not happy with the freebies!

In her last message to me she has rudely demanaded more free templates or she will be leaving me a bad review.

Does this break some sort of review guidelines? Is it possible to get their review taken down if they leave a bad one?

It seems like no matter what I offer this buyer they’re dissatisfied…

Yes. You shouldn’t give away freebies in order to get a better review. That is against Fiverr’s TOS.

You are in luck! 🍀

You now have solid proof that your buyer has blackmailed you!

I’d suggest that you contact CS ASAP and attach a screenshot of their message where they blackmailed you/threatened you with a negative review and request that Fiverr takes strict action against such buyers who are violating the ToS.

Do not give them any freebies and refuse to cancel the order when/if at all they request for one.

That might lead to order cancellation. They then might or might not compensate you for your loss.

Or Fiverr might ban the buyer for violating the ToS. From what I have experienced first-hand, thankfully, Fiverr takes blackmail and harassment pretty seriously. 🙂

An alternative option would be to politely inform the buyer that you’ve delivered what’s included in the order, and that by threatening to leave you a negative review, they are breaching Fiverr’s Terms of Service as a buyer.

If you need to point them to it, search for the following phrase in the TOS.

“Buyers who threaten to leave a damaging review to gain more services from the Seller not related to the agreed requirements.”

This could make them realise you’re smarter than they are, and they might think better of it. Because unfortunately, once a buyer begins behaving like this, reporting it to CS will most likely wind up with your order being cancelled.

That’s a great point! 🙂

I presumed that the OP was already past this. I thought they had already tried making the buyer understand that they had already delivered what was promised. 🙂

Yes, well spotted. I always try and see the best in people wherever possible, and you hope that buyers like this are merely a bit naive, rather than knowing exactly what they’re doing and trying to exploit people!

@bnbduck your profile looks really good btw… And it’s a cool service, something I’d never thought of before. We have friends who use Airbnb and I could imagine it’s the kind of thing they might find useful, I’ll try to remember to forward your gig on to them.

I don’t know how much time you’ve spent on this particular project, and I hate advising people to work for free as it’s fundamentally against what the site is about, but with only a handful of reviews to your name, if it were me, I’d be tempted to push this one to CS and have them cancel it for you. Chalk it up as a bad experience and move on, there are plenty of fair buyers out there who won’t treat you like this.

I know that some of our fellow sellers will disagree with me on this and say you should never cancel, which I do agree with (in theory)… but there is a cost to standing your ground, and that cost might well be a 1-Star review. You have to decide how much you care about potentially getting a 1-Star. Plus, as @hanshuber16 said, pushing it to CS may result in the buyer getting banned from the site, meaning one less ‘bad egg’ as it were.

Thanks so much everyone for all your advice, I will definitely report this person, I’m so glad fiverr take this sort of behaviour seriously.

It is annoying as I worked hard on the gig and she was happy with it and now I will potentially lose the sale over a couple of bonus templates that I throw in… I might have to reconsider them for future sales.

Not sure if it is worth explaining to them that what they are doing is wrong, I honestly don’t think it will make a difference to them.

I will report and let everyone know the outcome.

Thanks again, it’s great to know there are helpful people out there 🙂

If there’s real value in the templates, why not offer them as an Upsell/Extra on your gig? That way, it’s very clear in the description that people would be getting them, and you’d be able to increase your order revenue (which has got to be a good thing!)

If I decide to give some freebies I just write something like “I also added x and z for free for you however as they are a free add on they are not eligible for modifications or changes and comes as it is”

Life here on fiverr taught me that being nice can fire back at you and it’s better to give all conditions upfront 😉

you can read what I wrote again and you’ll see what’s wrong… or maybe not 🙂

You did not point out what’s wrong with my post, as you won’t be able to anyways.

There is nothing wrong with my post. End of story. Will not reply any longer on this. But read the below and maybe you’ll understand.

If I say “This egg is white” you cannot reply by saying “Wrong, this egg is white and it has protein”, got it? definitely not.

that’s what I was saying when I said ‘’ or maybe not ‘’ if it’s not obvious what’s wrong then no worries , maybe it is for others
