Not my style of drawing

Hi guys, how is it going. I just wanted to ask your opinnion about something:

I declined my first offer because they asked me to draw in a style of a certain cartoon show, my style is not exactly that and I thought “If you accept it you won’t be loyal to your style” and now I don’t know if I should’ve tried it 😦

I decided to give him a link to another person’s gig who specializes in that type of cartoon but at the same time I’m confused if I could’ve tried it even if its not my drawing style…

What do you guys think?

It was a correct decision, your (very nice!) Gig states clearly that the drawing is in your style and that the buyer can rather decide the character and the pose.

Anyhow selling an exact copy of a cartoon, that is copyrighted material and in most cases licensed for merchandising purposes, is not a good idea.
There is a remote possibility that your prospective buyer has noticed that you include the “commercial use” and is thinking to get a copy of a copyrighted drawing - licensed for commercial use - at 1/1000 of its real retail price.

Oh I see, maybe that’s why he was desperately asking for a specific design, he wanted to avoid paying too much and since my gig is pretty cheap he thought he could get away with it!

You know there are a lot of things to learn here before actually getting lots of orders, Im doing my best to learn but I also thank you guys for helping me out! 😀

Well if it were me, I would have taken the job. If you know that you could do it then there is no need to refuse the job. The first order is always very critical.

There are many things I would not do for $5
One is copying the style of “Simpson’s” or
“anime” anything. The customer is always right…
But maybe my style of art is not right for them…

Yes, if you wait for someone who isn’t part of
the herd with no personal taste (wants the same
as everyone else) you will wait a while. But
that’s a personal choice.

True, even a hoe needs to eat. I am here for
“walking around money” so maybe I can better
afford the attitude.
