Word Caterpillar - Round 3 - Nature 🌺

Recommended Posts

🌺 This was a fun game that needed a pick me up. For this round focus will be on nature; both edible and non-edible items alike. Same rules apply: create new word based on the theme using the last letter(s) of the previous word.

Example:
Package ➡️ Gear or Engine

Let’s start things off with:

Wisteria
I’ve always adored this plant but discovered in a recent article that it’s an invasive and can’t be planted.

Amorphophallus

This is a plant that draws a lot of attention during the rare times it blooms with it’s unusual flower.

(Nothing smells as good as wisteria in bloom. It is a spreading vine and is magnificent.)

Amorphophallus

Spiny Anteater

They are also known as short-beaked echidnas. They belong to the group of mammals called “Monotremes”: very rare group of egg-laying mammals. 🙂

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)

Rosemary is a fragrant herb from the Mediterranean but found worldwide. It is a wonderful condiment in cooking, is used for perfumes & beauty, and also has medicinal properties.

It is germicide, antiviral, and combined with thyme, is a powerful antiseptic. It also has antioxidants, improves hair shine & digestion.

Studies have shown that rosemary is useful as anti inflamatory and as an anti tumor agent.

Wild yaks are among the largest bovids and are second only to the gaur in shoulder height. They are also the largest native animal in their range. Wild yak adults stand about 1.6 to 2.2 m (5.2 to 7.2 ft) tall at the shoulder and weigh 305–1,000 kg (672–2,205 lb)

GEOFFROY CAT a native of the Amazon Rain Forest:

GEOFFROY CAT

Caterpillar

The one shown above is the arctic woolly bear moth (Gynaephora groenlandica). Endemic to Greenland and Canada (around the Arctic Circle), they spend most of their lives frozen and dormant. Because of this, this caterpillar has the longest life cycle seen in any butterfly or moth: it takes as long as 14 or 15 years to fully develop from egg to moth and only molt every 4 years. This caterpillar can withstand temperatures below −60 °C.

The world’s most expensive rose is a 2006 variety by famed rose breeder David Austin that was christened Juliet. Breeding the rose took a total 15 years and cost 5 million dollars. Juliet is now considered the world’s most expensive rose cultivar.

Ladybugs are not actually bugs but they are beetles. They play dead to protect themselves and releases stinky fluid. There is an interesting story about their name. According to the legends, somewhere in Europe, the pests were destroying the crops. The farmers prayed to the virgin mary, and soon farmers saw some bugs came and ate the pests saving their crops. The farmers started calling them “The lady’s beetles” and got modified to ladybugs over the years.

You can buy ladybug eggs by the thousands to put in your garden. They eat the bugs that destroy garden plants. You can also buy Praying Mantis eggs for the same purpose.

I didn’t know you can buy the eggs. I wonder why people use pesticides even though these beautiful creatures exist.

It depends on what kind of harmful bugs you have. Each type of bug only eats certain bad bugs. I see that Amazon sells bags of 1500 live ladybugs for $4.50.

  • Ladybugs are general predators that feed on a variety of slow-moving insects including Aphids, Moth eggs, Mites, Scales, Thrips, Leaf Hoppers, Mealybugs, Chinch Bugs, Asparagus Beetle larvae, Whitefly and others.
