[BEWARE!] Latest News on Fiverr Scammers – Story

In the last month, I have received a couple of messages with attachments, which is odd for me. The last one first message was, “I need help”. So, I said, “OK, what is it you need help with so I can direct you to the right Gig I offer.” They replied back with this txt file which I wrote back and asked what was in the file. They got a bit aggressive and demanded I open the file to find out. I wrote back and said, “I do not open files here.” They disappeared after that. I always find it suspicious if someone wants to send me a file considering what I do here. I don’t do picture readings, so I don’t need your picture - and, even if your question or problem has a long backstory, you do not need to have it in some txt file or any file - just copy/paste it into the message box here for me to read. If it is too long, keep copy/pasting. LOL

That would be a dream haha I, like many other people, work with file formats on a constant basis. It’s all about being aware of what technologies lie behind these things. You don’t have to be an IT expert to figure things out, but it does take a lot of time out of the things that I would like to do instead.

Anyway, I’m just now reinstalling Windows on my machine. It seems like the virus didn’t do all that much damage. The only thing I’ve noticed is that my PC is constantly using 100% of its resources, so lots of background stuff going on. It hasn’t stopped working though. Pay attention guys!

Please everyone do not write long posts like this. It probably has some valuable information and I spent over five minutes reading part of it but I have a life to live and don’t want to read such a long essay.

I keep my posts as short as I possibly can, out of being mindful of people’s limited time to spend reading it.

You guys are silly 😛

I read the whole thing, cause i was silly. 🥴

Please everyone do not write long posts like this.

I’ll second that. 😌

This does make an interesting read. I had a buyer order from me only to send an empty Word file as their order requirements. They sent the same empty file several times over until I finally contacted CS. (I use Linux so can’t get windows viruses.)

As soon as I did contact CS, they cancelled the order. I was shocked by their rapid response. Now, though, I’m wondering if this buyer was attempting the same virus scam….

Sorry, I thought I replied yesterday but my reply was saved to drafts. I just edited it (a little clumsily) and missed that line.

I hope I didn’t leave you with too much of a cliffhanger.

Alas, I’m no tease. At least not anymore.

I learned how annoying suspenseful endings can be when I worked for a while in a seedy adult movie studio just off the strip in Las Vegas. There my basic job was to…

Hi everyone. Fiverr goes to great lengths to ensure a positive and safe experience on our marketplace. As part of this effort, we use cutting edge antivirus scanners on files that are shared over the platform. That said, it’s impossible to catch everything and we can’t guarantee all files are 100% safe. If you believe you may have downloaded an unsafe file, please check your PC by scanning it with an updated antivirus software.

The first thing I do when someone sends a file is to click on their username and check when the account was created. If it is created within the past 1-2 months, then I do not open the file directly. I use VirusTotal, to check if the file is safe. If the VirusTotal says it has some virus(s) in it, then I immediately delete that file and just chat with the so-called potential buyer.

I have a MacBook Pro, so it had an option to press the spacebar and preview the file without actually opening it, so it also helps me to check if that is a real file or someone is trying to hack and overall Apple does have far better security than a Windows OS.

That is a good thing, that you upload your data on the servers. It is always safe there and no one can access it without your password. I even added 2-factor authentications for the more securities.

When someone is trying to hack your account, they will mostly say the same thing again and again: “Open the file. It has all the details”. That is another sign for a potential hacker.

That is very bad that the file was saying “No Viruses Found”. I don’t know what calculations they are using to confirm if the file has a virus in it or not.

I think it is better to use better hardware and software than the cheaper one. Security is important. Safety is important.

Wow thanks for the information
