Copyright Questions

Hi,

So a client of mine has requested me to make the “official” website for a person who is famous. I am worried about copyright violations because the images she sends me of this person are already on the web…

I dont even know how I can know for sure that this buyer is actually really a representative of this famous person…

I have asked her to agree to to sign a release saying that I am not responsible for any copyright violations from content that she has sent me…

So far she has not responded…

Does anyone else have any experience with this…I dont know whether to even continue the project because I dont want to put myself in a bad position…

From here:

Fiverr Customer Support will cancel orders based on, but not limited to, the following reasons:
Active Orders (after the buyer submits their requirements and before the seller delivers on Fiverr)
Users supplied or included copyright/trademark infringing materials as part of the Buyer requirements or the seller’s delivery.

Completed Orders (after the order is marked as complete and before the 14 day limitation)
Users who have been reported to use copyright/trademark infringing materials after verification and with proof.

Difficult to ask a buyer to sign a statement as:
To protect our users’ privacy, user identities are kept anonymous. Requesting or providing Email addresses, s***e/IM usernames, telephone numbers or any other personal contact details to communicate outside of Fiverr in order to circumvent or abuse the Fiverr messaging system or Fiverr platform is not permitted.

Yes - cancellation may be your best bet.

I think sellers must write it on the FAQ of each gigs from now on. Thanks, I get good information.

tough situation, Even if she sign you become part of a copyright violation.
Don’t do it.

Sometimes buyers ask to do prohibited stuff and after you do it they complain to fiverr.
When fiverr bans you they get a refund.

So if she is actually this famous persons agent…then the images of her client not copyright because they are her…

It looks shady to me, if your client is a super-famous as you say, their agent would go to an agency which is famous, or to an established freelancer, they won’t risk it with a freelancer that doesn’t have any reviews. Most probably, it’s a trick to scam you or something. Try searching the Buyer’s name on google “username fiverr”, eventually you might find out if he had placed orders in the past.

I don’t like to offend you or something, by saying that you don’t have the experience per se. I just look in this objectively, and give you my own point of view ion on how people think. 🙂

I actually have my own business outside of Fiverr and they easily could have checked our my website and seen my reviews on Google and Yelp…

But maybe they are shady I dont know

I dont really need Fiverr anyway so I am probably just going to drop it. I do think they should have much better policies for freelancers though…
