Commercial licence when buying from another fiverr seller

I am a voiceover seller and I often sell to other fiverr sellers who make videos. They offer video making services which include a voiceover and then outsource that part to me.

It seems pretty clear to me that the video seller is making money from my voiceover and therefore should be paying the extra for a commercial licence. Sometimes it’s pretty clear cut where the final user (their client) is a business so in that case they need a licence. When the end user is not a business however (it’s to be used for educational purposes for example) then often the video seller does not want to purchase the licence.

So my question is this - If the video seller is selling the video to an end user then the video seller is making money, so they should still need a commercial licence. I imagine lots of people have experience of this - am I justified asking that they buy the licence in all cases?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions 🙂

Hey, thanks for the reply 🙂

I am starting to ask fiverr video sellers now if they need the licence. Often they do agree but I have a significant percentage who dont agree and then the order ends up being cancelled. Im worried that is going to start impacting negatively on my rating as a seller 😦

Do other VO artists have experience of trying to enforce the purchase of licences where they are needed?

This will impact your ranking negatively you need to start going through customer support before cancelling so that you are not effected. If a video seller refuses to buy the license contact the company and inform them they do not have proper licensing to use that product because your license was not purchased and they need to cover that expense.

Fiverr sellers have done that before and it didn’t end well - CS takes a dim view of it I’m afraid. 🙂

CS caters to the buyer, regardless of the fact it’s still not properly licensed and you as the seller should not be effected negatively in any way if another seller did not act appropriately.

I’m not making any comment on how CS do things, I’m just saying what’s happened in the past to sellers who have contacted businesses outside of Fiverr. ☀️
