The Wednesday Morning Big Gig Flag Assault - How will Fiverr React?

Morning people. I’m trying to stay away from Fiverr and the forum at the moment and it is lovely :). However, I am going to have to go back to work at some point…

Anyway, I just flagged 10 sellers to Fiverr after meticulously tracking down the source material which they are ripping off and selling here on Fiverr.

It is not possible to submit a copyright complaint unless you are the original creator of a piece of content yourself. However, for every non-original content complaint which I could file, I linked Fiverr directly to where they can see a piece of content has been stolen from. In fact, if Fiverr bothers to follow the links which I painstakingly spent time cataloging, they will see the likes of the following:

Mod Note: Image removed. Please remove the username from the image

Specifically:

  • The exact video being plagiarized
  • The contact details of the original content creator
  • The true cost of the licenses which Fiverr sellers would need to purchase if selling such work legitimately

Of course, I know that Fiverr can be a little robotic and slow on the uptake sometimes. In this case, I have included a write up for each flagged gig explaining how the videos being reported can’t possibly be being sold legitimately at $5 - $80 if extended licenses required per sale start at $84 and up.

So, does Fiverr actually act on flags? I guess we’ll soon find out…

They do - I found an illegal gig, I flagged it, it was gone in a couple of days. I guess the time required to remove them will vary for each gig.

Your flagging seems to be legit, but there has to be some protection against false flagging. Some people may flag a legit gig out of spite or to kill the competition. In that case there has to be some consequences for the flagger.

Last couple of times I did that CS responded with: “if you are not the owner of those templates, there’s nothing we can do”

I know. This is actually what I expect. However, I do have full authorization to lodge a real copyright complaint on behalf of one video studio. What is more, if flagging fails, I’m basically planning to reach out to other studios and ask them if they would like to authorize me to do the same.

The numbers are easy to convince people. One seller on Fiverr has made more this year (looking at the amount of reviews and their January start date on the platform) than the person who originally created the content they are selling. What is more, that’s just one seller.

I can’t offer it on Fiverr for obvious reasons. But if flagging fails. I’m going to try and be quite a lot of Envato sellers friendly neighborhood go-to guy for Fiverr copyright infringement. Standard package to include a copyright complaint to Fiverr, a simultaneous press release and application to youtube to take down any stolen material being hosted there.

My thinking is, if you can’t beat them, you might as well just go full arsonist on their whole business operation.

Plus, it’s a really fantastic niche :).

Let me know if I can help in any way. 🙂

Just out of curiosity, why was the image removed from my post? It in no way disclosed any information about a buyer or seller on Fiverr.

Was it because someone could see the example and then go. ‘oh crikey, look how many sellers on Fiverr are selling that very product!’

See. Gratuitous image removal causes real harm…

There Vicky was, happily enjoying a jam sandwich with her imaginary dachshund Mr. Biggles. Then suddenly her whole day came to a full stop like it does when you find a spider in an open box of cereal you have just been eating hand to mouth like a drunk lumberjack.

You can’t argue with the people who take potentially interesting images away like you can a spider or a lumberjack, though. You’re just forced to sit and wonder what you or someone else did wrong.

As I said in another post, I have missed you and I am so glad you are back on the Forum. 😊

Thank you but I’ll be off again for a bit soon. I’ve got a new sanity system where I just say no to every message and only work on orders which come direct. In practice, this should mean that I reduce Fiverr time by half but it seems to be actually increasing my workload. - I call it the ‘fizz with rage then damn it, let’s just order anyway effect.’

Crazy how Fiverr works.

Also, I spied a post yesterday about Bitcoin, saw there was a bit of a niche there which I am surprised I hadn’t noticed, and today I decided to consume it for myself. 🙂

That’s like the niche of people offering to find 5 legitimate SEO/marketing gigs on Fiverr.

Yes, but that’s over saturated. Bitcoin has 35 article writers and I am an actual daily crypto trader who can easily SEO blow 35 competitors out the water.

I quite enjoyed my discussion with the young Bitcoin fellow. I learned a lot and I see now he booked his first gig.

About your system, so when someone messages you about a gig, you ignore them?

No, I just say I’m overbooked unless I get a one in a one hundred message like one I just got from a person who sent me an amazing brief about an amazing ad product which it will actually be interesting to take on.

They even sent me a flashing ape. - Who can’t resist rude jungle animals? I know I can’t.

I am on your page now. You were working on it when you were out of site. As I remember the last time I looked at it you had fewer gigs. Uhoh I just got a blue message from Fiverr saying I have sent you 3 messages and I need to include others in our conversation or I should send you a personal message.

I don’t know what this means. I ignore personal messages (sorry) as it usually means I’ve been flagged and if I read them I just get angry.

When I started to write my reply a blue box appeared over the message pane on the right that shows what your message will look like with the emoticons in it.

I need to take time to write more gigs in different nitches.

Yeah, I’d really like to do a creative writing gig but I’m worried how it might harm my brand identity. Either that or a saucy story gig suitable for the fun and lifestyle category if they still have that. That’s what I would suggest @lucycodex does.

Saucy stories, Lucy. Have that one on me 🙂
