Don't Take Chances With Your Fiverr Account

Just one question is it Ok if I bring clients that I talk on Social Media (Facebook or Twitter) to Fiverr? We basically discuss all the details there. They contact me on Social Media before my Fiverr due to advertising and stuff. is that ok?

This is the big question! It’s too risky! I have a few long-term clients whom I have picked up from another platform and they ALWAYS email me since that is allowed there (providing payment is done through the site). I would never feel comfortable bringing clients here to place an order, though, just because of this Medieval outside communication paranoia.

Also, to give the late Ryan his dues, he does have a real knack for appearing all over Google. In this case, and since we know he was here most of the time, I really think it is safe to say that any communication off-Fiverr was taking place to draw people here.

In fact, just due to payment processing and invoicing ease, it makes sense to direct people to a platform like Fiverr.

I agree with everything which you have said. However, I have had problems with buyers whom I have never worked with complaining to CS about things like my tone in a message or something I have said here on the forum. What is more, in both of these cases, I wasn’t made aware of this by Fiverr in an official capacity.

In the last case, I got a message in August from someone I had replied to in June, saying they didn’t think the tone of my message was helpful and they were reporting me. This being the case, it is simply not okay for anyone to not receive a warning or be asked to explain their side of a story if there are no serious things like identity fraud going on.

I have had 2 people from this forum try to contact me via social media. What’s more, I keep a very low social media profile most of which doesn’t connect to Fiverr at all. In this case, I actually find it a bit creepy how these people went to lengths to contact me for absolutely no logical reason. - I blocked them obviously. But what if they now complain to Fiverr and make something up about me? Or, could I if I felt like it, complain to Fiverr and get them blocked?

It’s all fine banning people. Really, though, it’s not okay for Fiverr to take the stance that it does on no warnings or communications, especially when Fiverr allows some sellers to operate 100% illegally on this platform and knows full well that it does.

It’s not professional. It just makes you think… “mmhh, that’s a bit dodgy.” Before then thinking, “mmhh, that’s probably not what Fiverr wants a doer to say. Quick! Away with us to the anti-paranoia medication cupboard!”

I have had 2 people from this forum try to contact me via social media.

Finding this out kind of creeps me out. When I signed up for Fiverr, I filled out the information and then read the Academy information. So now my username is my real name. I would rather be a bit more mysterious, unknown, private. However, I also learned your Fiverr name cannot be changed, and now that I have done a few gigs, I want people to be able to find me again. So my Fiverr name is my name and visa versa.

Don’t play detective and contact people from the forum outside fiverr. That should go without saying. It puts us in a bad position of not knowing what to do as far as do we say it happened, report it, not report it… It’s a no win situation either way when it happens to you.

Don’t let it creep you out. Imagine the free marketing a well-publicized ’Mad Person Wanting $5 Bargain Tracks Down Fiverr Freelancer & Lives In Their Attic for 6-Months’ headline would bring you.

Personally, I’d be keeping my fingers crossed.

Thank you for fueling my paranoia mate 😃

to give the late Ryan his dues

Did his account get banned?

Don’t play detective and contact people from the forum outside fiverr. That should go without saying.

I second this, which is why I only bring people from respectable groups that I’ve had conversations with before. I think I should stop and wait for Fiverr to loosen the grip on the ban hammer.

P.S

Just searched for Ryan…he’s gone…wow. This is truly heart-breaking when you think about it. From TRS to being banned, a sad tale indeed.

He seemed to totter on the edge of banishment all the time, for many reasons. I think he finally crossed the line of no return. He was fun in his own wacky way.

As @misscrystal said, this is exactly what Fiverr want you to do. However, I would suggest a couple of things to cover yourself, just in case.

Firstly, take a note of people you direct to Fiverr - you could do that within the Note section on Fiverr but I would do it elsewhere if you have spoken to them on Facebook etc. The reason is that if there is any confusion, you could then send a list of people you brought to Fiverr along with when you were in touch with them.

Secondly, if you discuss something on Facebook and they then order on Fiverr, copy and past the FB conversation into the order page. It just covers you in case something goes wrong.

I would say that this might be overkill but if you can take 30 seconds to do it, it might really be a lifesaver some day.

This post was not intended to cause panic but rather to reassure and remind people that it is better to be safe and also to make people aware that certain rules and advice change over time and it is up to them to keep up with it.

Again, this type of thing SHOULD BE OK but it is better to be safe than sorry.

I suggest that you make it clear within the order page that you are using the info provided to complete the order and nothing else. If you are worried, send a message to CS and tell them.

Don’t be sad. Everything is an opportunity. Ryan could write faster than cheeta with wheels on. Technically he’s not part of Fiverr anymore so… Well, there shouldn’t be any rule about outsourcing to him.

Just saying…

Also, for disclaimer purposes, if I do that it will not be with Fiverr clients work or be anything to do with Fiverr at all. I’m not going to risk my life for a $2 markup.

 And we know where to find him… It’s starting to make sense now, the 2 articles for $5 with half of them cancelled…

And so starteth the great Ryan trade war…

Seriously, though, he is an example of how any freelancer should brand themselves. I’ve shot myself in the foot in this respect as I have my author pen name, my Fiverr pen name, and my regular pen name. I keep going to coalesce them but then I write something very political or controversial that once even got me a death threat, and I realize that I’m best just sticking with things as they are.

At least there aren’t a hundred others on the internet with the same name as your fiverr name-- who aren’t you.

I wonder how people keep from mixing in fiverr clients with outside clients when they have so much exposure on the internet, as I’ve seen a few in my category who have extensive ads and websites.

Pro sellers have outside fiverr business too and they seem to be immune from this problem somehow.

That’s because they are Gods above us humble men and women kind. In fact, I’ve had it on good authority that after becoming a Pro seller herself, Emmaki actually moved to Mount Olympus. That’s why she never comes to hang out anymore. She’s far too busy having ambrosia food fights with the other Pros and getting tanked on ouzo decanted by Zeus himself. Must be nice.

It’s not even worth thinking about what they think of us… We must look like malnourished bacteria to them.

I do have a question for the first of you three to answer. I find you as one of the best diplomats on the forum, hence why I bother you. 🙂

My gig requires making outside communication with clients, in order to make them admins on the social media pages that I am going to set-up. I have a green light from customer support for this. For my facebook gig, they need to send me a friend request, so I can make them admins.

Would it be OK, if I tell this to my clients at the end of the delivery:
In order to become an admin of the facebook fan page, please send me a friend request on the link below socialmedianame.com/username. However, all of the communication must go through Fiverr, if you do contact me by a direct message on Facebook, I would not reply by all means. Therefore all of the questions, and the necessary feedback, or information that you need please redirect them to my Fiverr profile. Thanks for understanding.

Oooohhhh… This goes beyond my capacity to do anything but just speculate. If this was me, I would send this disclaimer to Fiverr CS for approval as well as perhaps a screenshot of it already being used on a social media page. Then if Fiverr gives the green light, I’d screenshot all messages from whomever you get the green light from and put these in a folder titled. “Proofs for if things ever go FUBAR.”

Just me.

As much as I am honored by your invitation to reply, I’m definitely not a Facebook fan. Now, you said you got a green light from CS, which is all good and dandy, so why wouldn’t it be OK if CS already gave you the OK?

That message sounds fine to me, although I don’t know how wary a client might be about the clicking of a social link and the friend request - again, I don’t like Facebook, I’m not good at it and I don’t like friend requests myself.

And I was just going to tell you to ask CS if that message is OK or not since there’s a very fine line that you’re about to cross (and you definitely must tread carefully), but @cyaxrex is a typing machine!

P.S. I don’t know, call me crazy, but I’d tweak the message slightly:

“In order to become an admin of the Facebook fan page, please send me a friend request on the following link socialmedianame.com/username. However, all communication must go through Fiverr; if you do contact me through Facebook’s messaging system, I will not reply by any means. If you have any questions, feedback or information that you need, please redirect them to my Fiverr profile. Thank you for understanding.”

Thanks, guys. 🙂

how wary a client might be about the clicking of a social link and the friend request

It is the easiest way to make somebody an admin on the page, in 99% of the cases, all of my clients send a friend request from a fake profile. The other way to make someone an admin is by sending them an invite e-mail (which in most cases doesn’t work). I was okay with this until one of our forum comrades was banned yesterday. Also, I do not use my personal profile it’s under my alias Mark. The same goes for LinkedIn. 😦

Now I am really confused. I would definitely contact customer support to clarify if I can send that message at the end of the delivery. 😕

fake

That’s the word that scares me most nowadays 😃

Anyhow, definitely drop CS a note and let them clarify things for you 😉 However, throughout the years I’ve seen how one CS member can have an opinion or know something to be true, and then another one comes in and has a different opinion or knows that something to be false 🤨 they really need to get their stories straight.

So even if CS’ reply is sparkly green, I’d still do what Cy told you: keep proof of everything, screenshots of CS’ replies that gave you the OK, your order screenshots, text files, order numbers, social stuff, everything. If it was me, I’d set myself to paranoid mode just in case 🤯

And you’re welcome! 🙂

I don’t think I will be participating here on the forum the same way as before. I have become paranoid.
