What do you mean by locking the flag?

I live in Sweden. So, in theory, my flag should be Swedish, yes? But, Fiverr have locked it to the British flag as that is my nationality. Technically, you should ONLY have the flag of the country you live in. They made an exception for me because people kept leaving negative feedback calling me a liar about being British as they saw the flag (although, they weren’t unhappy with the content)

Why do you want to change your flag?

Well I have never thought about that. Im from Jordan and I created my account from there two yeara ago. Now im in New Zealand and I have been here for two years but I dont think the flag has changed? Is there a way to change it anyway?

You can contact customer support and they MAY change it for you.

I can see the whole flag thing as a problem.

I recently contacted customer support about this issue, because I’m Norwegian, and offering a specific Norwegian service, it can become a problem that my flag shows “from Spain.” Yes, I live in Spain, but I’m from Norway.

Offering a country specific service when living abroad (as many freelancers do) can sometimes be difficult when the flag and “from…” does not reflect the person’s actual nationality - as was the case for me.

I contacted support, and they told me that the flag would update based on your IP location.

I don’t know if using a VPN would get you banned, or “flag locked,” and if they ban people for this, I think it’s an issue. People use VPN for all sorts of stuff.

I get why Fiverr can’t allow sellers to set their own country though because it could be misused. A Russian seller who writes English content without being fluent, could then set themselves as being from the UK, and fool buyers (just an example).

The VPN could also be misused because sellers could make more than one account on the platform without being detected, which is against TOS I believe.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to try! Some things we just have to accept and move on… Fiverr’s stubbornness is one of them. 😛

It would be nice if there was a “from” location and a “currently in” location.
I’m American, but living in South Korea. Although I explain right off the bat that I’m teaching English here, I always wonder if it looks a bit shady to buyers. I also travel a fair bit, and I notice that the time will change based on where I am, but it doesn’t match the country that is listed as that doesn’t change.

Buddy, If you are using reliable VPN for changing your country name then its fine but if you are using free or unreliable VPN than it’s not okay:-(

Because IP address which is given by free or unreliable VPN is already blacklisted or it is possible that reliable VPN slow down the speed of your internet or your device. Using VPN to change your country is not allowed by Fiverr. They’ve brought in phone verification - they send a code to your mobile, and they use the country code which matches your location. If your location isn’t genuine, you don’t receive the code, and you can’t withdraw any funds etc.

Not to nitpick, but If people want to use a VPN generally for Internet surfing for non-malicious privacy reasons (and Fiverr say they value users’ privacy in the ToS), they could use a (paid) VPN that let’s them choose their own country in the latter case.

I think the VPN might be alright - as you say there are genuine reasons for using it, but not for country changing. ☀️

Would be interesting to know, but I’m on my phone, maybe I’ll write CS to ask later, if I won’t forget it.

I can’t remember having seen something concrete about VPN being disallowed, though, so I’ll search first to find the exact wording.

I travel extensively and work on the road (visa issues and married to a person who is not my nationality). I’m Canadian, but lived in Britain when I opened my fiverr, so my fiverr has me as British. I’m currently travelling though and am in Albania. I hope this doesn’t cause me any problems lol!

You should ask Customer Support. If your real location is in a non-English-speaking country and your VPN shows you from a country where English is the predominant language, you could have a problem. This is the most common issue that catches that attention of Trust and Safety. No one on the forum can answer you for sure.
