Crazy Hard Work (Used this title before)

I will be busy as hell catching up on a shed load of orders after today. As it is, I am sat chilling with a beer right now while a man drills a hole through my foot thick new maisonette wall and attempts to run a new Internet cable to the junction box down the street. Have given up on trying to work with patchy Internet on mobile devices. In fact, I have no idea how so called digital nomads do it.

Of course, tomorrow is going to be absolute hell. As is the rest of the week. What better way to prepare, however, than by having an ice cold local beer or nine?

I like the fact that you take your business on fiverr very seriously, especially as you have decided to upgrade your internet service…

I would be looking into doing same much later in August.

Well, I’ve just moved house. In this case, the Internet reconnection isn’t really an optional thing. Interestingly though, I have upgraded to a faster bundle (if and when it is ever ready for me to use). I have to be really careful about these things though. As it stands, Freelancing already costs me $1,500 every year before I do anything. My new Internet package will take this to $1,5010.

So far investing more has led to more overall revenues but if sales were to downturn significantly, I would have to look at scaling things back. i.e. this year video sales are down so really I should not renew my adobe after effects licence but it all gets tricky as what if they pick up again but only for a short period before I do?

Ahhh… The stress.

It’s going to cost me $24,000 this year… 😦 US healthcare sucks.

Removed. It’s tough being a freelancer…

Every job is tough, with freelancing there is a lot of uncertainty. But my expenses on freelancing are 1/100th of what I make from it, or something like that. (Of course, not counting taxes here.)

OMG…i was wondering how do you manage writing so much on certain topics as this needs lot of researches and thoughts…in other word excess of brain work. Any mantra of working continuously for such a long period because it is very difficult for me.

Just enjoy what you do and don’t get distracted. I am still to master the second point. 😁

I wasn’t actually factoring in things like taxes and healthcare. That said, I wouldn’t ever entertain the idea of spending $24,000 on healthcare. If I was a Brit, I would simply stagger my time in the US around a 182-day maximum residency so that I still qualified for free NHS care. That said, why are you paying so much for US health cover in the first place? Have you been identified as genetically predisposed to every bad thing that can ever happen to anyone anywhere?

Heh, no - we only pay 12,000 a year for healthcare for the two of us (my wife and I are both freelancers). I am a Brit who moved to the US, so the pain of going from the NHS to paying $12K a year is real. The other $12K we pay is for other expenses, before tax.

$12000 a year for health insurance for two is not bad actually. I paid more than that just for myself but switched to a lesser plan which is only $500 a month. It covers less. I talk to Canadians who own homes here but will not live here permanently due to the health insurance crises.

Yes, it was the best deal we found. We managed on Obamacare for the first couple of years, so it was around $4,000 for the two of us. Couldn’t do that this year, hence the cost. The shocking thing for me, is that the $12,000 just buys me the right to have a $4,000 deductible if I do get sick…

I think healthcare costs in the US are one of the major inhibitors in the gig economy growing further here.

It’s not just the gig economy but any type of self employment. It’s really outrageous what it costs for healthcare here. I see no solution in sight either unfortunately. People lose their life savings and go bankrupt. It seems like the current solution being attempted is to remove 34,000,000 from having any health insurance of any kind.

Taxes are another issue with self employment, which are about 25% of my income.

I feel your pain! It is a constant juggling act… The only “solution” we have really found is to put as much money as possible into retirement accounts, which we can’t touch for 20 years…

@misscrystal I don’t have any health insurance, never get sick and don’t expect to. Plan to start exercising from tomorrow and get fitter and stronger. My taxes are 30%, by the way, higher than yours. But it is progressive taxation - 10% for up to Rs. 5 lakhs, 20% for 5 to 10 lakhs, 30% for over 10 lakhs, can’t explain, but you get the idea.

@writer99025 Health care in India is affordable. I went to the hospital for 3 days recently and have a $49,000 bill and it wasn’t even anything serious.

Wow, seriously? Man, that’s really, really high. Hope your insurance paid for that.
