What to do with my Server?

Serious suggestions and/or ideas please. Also, no ‘create a portfolio website’ etc etc. - I already have one.

In short, I have just let a server subscription auto-renew with Ipage and I’m now sat wondering what to do with it. I tried venturing into affiliate marketing last year but gave up as I got too busy with work to really put in the effort.

In this case, what should I do with it/what kind of website should I build? (Only potentially money making suggestions please).

Any ideas?

Edit to add: You mentioned, your dream would be to travel around with Chico. You can potentially generate money by writing about your experience visiting various pet friendly places. You could generate income through ads and sponsors.

Not a bad idea actually… I am a bit of an alternative veterinary health and raw feeding aficionado. That’s a pretty good niche.

I was thinking about a news blog where I can beat the occasional hysteria drum whenever something in the news gets right on the hair on my chest.

No I had my own. It was a nightmare. You get hit with lots of professional spammers using all your bandwidth not to mention being illegal as just one aspect of the horror.

Being a voice of reason doesn’t work, no matter how right you are, no matter how rational you are, people are too comfortable living in a safe space. But I do take joy in watching reality dawn on people who can’t accept reality as fact.

That sounds like a case of “no mail server for you.” 🙂 Isn’t there a way to limit the bandwidth per user, though?

I assume that wouldn’t necessarily stop someone who tried to install a mail server within their account though.

Now that I think about it, I see why some hosts don’t allow any access to mail servers on their own system.

Worse, those blinded by the zeitgeist are often those who feel obliged to correct the opinions of those they disagree with.

Perhaps just make it your life’s prerogative to be defined by how you physically treat others, not your attempts (all be them virtuous) to reframe other people’s understanding of the world.
